Side Tables or Coffee Tables?

The most straight forward definition of a coffee table is that it is quite a large table that is usually placed in front of a sofa for the function of placing various items on such as drinks, remote controls, books or more decorative items.  This definition may now be a little outdated as there are many more options available and they are becoming less cumbersome to fit in with the more contemporary open plan approach to furnishing a living room.  Having said this the coffee table is still very popular and for those lucky enough to have a large living space the traditional, larger table is still a great option, especially when we consider the variety of table available some of which double up as a storage area in the form of added shelves or even ottoman or trunk style storage units.
If space is at a premium and it simply not practical to have a large table in the middle of your living space then individual coffee tables in the form of side tables or lamp tables would probably be your best option as these can be placed at the side of chairs and sofas and may take up space that would otherwise be wasted giving you a clear path through the middle of the living space.  Also because side tables are quite small they are much easier to move around to suit a variety of situations and seating arrangements.
If space is really at a premium and you cannot justify having two or more side tables ready for action at all times then the third option is a nest of side tables, which only take up the space of one table but can be used in usually three different places when needs be and then placed back after use to de-clutter your living space once more.
